Liz Tsui

bio

A photo of Liz in front of a flower garden.

Liz is an artist and curator based in Tkaronto/Toronto. She started drawing at a young age with her maternal grandfather who didn’t speak English and she herself didn’t speak Mandarin. Drawing was a way of communicating and sharing thoughts that otherwise couldn’t be accessed. She is third generation Canadian and produces work that subtly nods to her heritage while critiquing new technologies.

Community-engaged art-making and networking are essential as Liz navigates her relationships to the meaning of “home” and to her connection to Chinese heritage; complicated by language barriers and cultural rifts. She is a member of Long Time No See Collective based in Toronto’s Chinatown and collaboratively works toward uncovering forgotten histories surrounding the arrival of Chinese immigrants in Canada dating back to the late 1800s.
